Tanning Salons
Every Illinois tanning facility must be licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
The Illinois General Assembly’s Acts and Code provides details about licensure requirements. To ensure compliance with this code, county health departments conduct the annual tanning facility inspections of tanning establishments within the county.
Personal Appearance Professionals
Illinois requires personal appearance professionals, their salons/shops plus the training academies and instructors to be licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- Licenses for Illinois Cosmetologists, Estheticians, and Teachers expire on 9/30 of each odd year.
- Licenses for Illinois Cosmetology Schools and Esthetics Schools, expire on 9/30 of each even year.
- Licenses for Illinois Hair Braiders, Hair Braiding Teachers, Hair Braiding Schools expire on 10/31 of each even year.
- Licenses for Illinois Nail Technicians, Nail Technology Teachers, Nail Tech Schools expire on 10/31 of each even year.
- Registration for Illinois Salons or Shops expires on 11/30 of each even year.
- Licenses for Massage Therapists expires on 12/31 of each even year.

Barbering
Illinois requires barbers, barber shops, barbering schools and instructors to be licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- Licenses for Illinois Barbers, Barber Teachers, and Barber Schools expire on 7/31 of each odd year.
- Registration for Illinois Salons or Shops expires on 11/30 of each even year.

Massage Therapists
